reunion features 67 candidates
Sovereign Grand Commander speaks to 50 valleys simultaneously
The Scottish Rite in the Valley of Cleveland, held the Spring 2000 Reunion at the Cleveland Masonic Center April 29, 2000. The class of candidates was named the Millennium Class. Members and guests viewed the beautiful and perfectly staged degrees presented by the dedicated officers of the valley, the casts in the various degrees, the Mummer’s Club, and the Scottish Rite Chorus. 67 new Scottish Rite Masons joined other 32° Masons as they met across the jurisdiction in celebration of the new
millennium.
A highlight of the reunion was Sovereign Grand Commander, Ill.·. Robert O. Ralston, 33°, speaking to 50 Valleys in the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction at the same time and a special video of a concert, “A Millennium Celebration of 32nd Degree Freemasonry”, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum of our National Heritage in Lexington, Mass. Wives of the candidates and members were invited to share in the exciting events of the program and banquet that
followed.
The degrees presented at the one-day millennium reunion included the 14th (Grand Elect Mason); the 15th (Knight of the East or Sword); The 18th (Knight of the Rose Croix); and the 32nd (Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret. The degrees of the Valley of Cleveland were presided over by Ill.·. Kenneth A. DeLaat, 33°, Thrice Potent Master of Eliadah Lodge of Perfection, Ill.·. Norman E. Schneider, 33°, Sovereign Prince of Bahurim Council Princes of Jerusalem, Robert W. Thomas, Most Wise Master of Ariel Chapter of Rose Croix, and Jeffrey J. Black, Commander-in-Chief of Lake Erie Consistory. It was the final performances of DeLaat, Schneider and Black, as they have completed their terms in office of their respective
bodies.
Due to time constraints, the degree work had to be presented in a timely manner in order to join in the Supreme Council program which was to begin at
exactly 5:00 p.m. All who made this happen are to be congratulated and
recognized for their contributions.
The final tally of the reunion was:
315 members, 67 class members, and 7 visitors. The special program and
banquet totaled 250 members and guests.

George Peterson (Ashtabula Co.), Scottish Rite Chorus Director, Ill .·.
Marvin R. Price, 33°, and Alice; Degree Director, Ill Merlyn
Meredith, 33° and Jane; Board of Trustee Members: Illustrious Brethren
Wilbur B. Smith, Joseph R. Bako, Robert J. Maxwell; Grand Chapter Most
Excellent Charles J. McCarty, Grand High Priest of The Grand Chapter
Royal Arch Masons of Ohio; Ill.·. John Young, 33°, Deputy's
Representative for the Valley of Cleveland; and Ill.·. Steven J. Krekus,
33°, Grand Orator of the Grand Lodge of Ohio, and Chairman of the Board
of Trustees for the Valley of Cleveland.
Millennium Reunion Highlights:
3372 new Sublime Princes were received; the
largest class was from Hamburg, New York, with 454 candidates; there
were 20 sets of twins and/or fathers and sons. The Valley of Cleveland
Class gift was a total of $700 distributed $300 to DeMolay for Boys,
$300 to the 32° Masonic Learning Center for Children, and a
Commemorative Paving Brick; guests from other valleys; Akron, Cambridge,
and Canton.
