Ill.·. Robert J. Hibjan, 33°, Past Sovereign Prince of Bahurim Council, Princes of Jerusalem, has been appointed Deputy’s Representative for the Valley of Cleveland by Most Worshipful and Illustrious Brother James E. Olmstead, 33°, Deputy for the State of Ohio, Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. The appointment was announced at the Ohio Council of Deliberation in Columbus June 3, 2000. Illustrious Brother Hibjan succeeds Ill.·. John W. Young, 33°, who recently retired from that position. Illustrious Brother Hibjan was installed the Deputy’s Representative by Ill.·. James E. Olmstead, 33°, at the Four Coordinate Bodies meeting in The Cleveland Masonic and Performing Arts Center June 5, 2000.Illustrious Brother Hibjan was Raised on June 5, 1969 in Silver Cord Lodge no. 651 (now Acacia Lodge no. 651). He was elected and installed Worshipful Master of Silver Cord Lodge in 1979 and again in 1980. Illustrious Brother Hibjan served the Grand Lodge of Ohio as District Deputy Grand Master of the 22nd Masonic District during 1984-85-86. His other Masonic affiliations include membership in McKinley Chapter, R.A.M. (now Mt. Olive Chapter no. 189); Woodward Council, R. & S.M. no. 118; and St. Benedict Conclave, Cleveland, Ohio, Red Cross of Constantine, where he is presently holds the office of Senior General. He became a member of the Valley of Cleveland in the winter class of 1975 and was elected Sovereign Prince of Bahurim Council, Princes of Jerusalem in 1988 through 1990. He is a member and Past President (1984) of the Mummer’s Club. Illustrious Brother Hibjan is President and owner of Blue Ribbon Machinery, Inc., a Machine Tool Distributor and Service Center located in Walton Hills, Ohio. He and his wife Kathleen are the proud parents of two children, Robert James and Deborah Sue. They have two granddaughters, Jennifer and Nichole. Bob and Kathy are members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and reside in Solon, Ohio.
John W. Young, 33° completes term as Deputy’s Representative
Ill.·. John W. Young, 33°, Deputy’s Representative in the State of Ohio for the Valley of Cleveland, has retired from his post effective June 3, 2000. Ill.·. Brother Young will be moving to a newly created position as the Valley of Cleveland Representative for the raising of funds for the 32° Masonic Learning Centers and other charities. Young will be succeeded, in The Valley of Cleveland as Deputy’s Representative by Ill.·. Robert J. Hibjan, 33°, a Past Sovereign Prince of Bahurim Council, Princes of Jerusalem. In his duties as Deputy’s Representative, Young carried out all the duties previously designated to the assigned Active to the Valley of Cleveland. Ill.·. James E. Olmstead, Deputy for the Supreme Council in The State of Ohio State of Ohio, said that “ Ill.: Young has served diligently, and the Valley of Cleveland has benefited from having Illustrious Brother Young working on its behalf during his term of office. I personally thank him for the honor and dignity he brought to the position.”
Illustrious Brother Young was appointed to the post in 1994 by Ill.·. Alfred E. Rice, 33°, then the Deputy for the State of Ohio. The Deputy’s Representative for the State of Ohio was a newly created position for the Valley of Cleveland, as well as for the Valleys of Cambridge, Akron, Steubenville and Youngstown. In assuming his new position as Co-Chair with Ill.·. Robert Bodenstein for the Charitable Giving Committee, Young said “It has been said that often when one door closes, another opens. As I retire as the Deputy’s Representative, the new opportunity to serve our Scottish Rite presents itself in the Charitable Giving Committee. I’d stress that it’s the thought that counts. Even a simple birthday present or wedding gift is given with a lot of thought as to what is appropriate to make it special. The added value of a special charitable gift to the 32° Masonic Charities takes thought to make it a special gift. Our Valley of Cleveland's committee is ready to help each Brother choose exactly the right and most beneficial financial gift for him.” In the Valley of Cleveland, Young served as Commander-in-Chief of Lake Erie Consistory in 1992-1994 and was the founding chairman of the Valley of Cleveland Family Life Program. Under the leadership of the late Chairman of Trustees, Ill.·. Ralph Peckinpaugh, Young encouraged the board members to implement a Learning Center in the Valley of Cleveland. By virtue of the appointment, a Deputy’s Representative becomes the highest-ranking Scottish Rite Mason in the Valley, and as such he bears the great responsibility of assisting the Valley’s officers in fulfilling their duties as leaders of the valley. He is specifically charged with the following duties and responsibilities; * To assist the Deputy in the discharge of his management and administrative duties. * To exercise all specific duties delegated by the Deputy. * To stimulate and maintain open lines of communication and initiate dialogue with officers and members of the Valley. * To implement the policies, procedures, and directives of the Deputy, and see that the customs, usages, and laws of the Supreme Council are properly observed. * To be a resource to the Valley, it’s leadership and it’s members in bringing to the attention of the Deputy their ideas, thought, needs, recommendations, complaints and other matters of concern. * To attend meetings of the Officers and the Bodies in the Valley. * To monitor and see that the Valley is actively participating in the following: 1. That a Membership Development Program is active and effective. 2. That a Membership Retention Program is in existence and constantly utilized. 3. That Family Life Programs and other social functions are executed throughout the year and reported on regularly. 4. That required degrees are appropriately exemplified. 5. That endeavors and programs of the Sovereign Grand Commander, Supreme Council, Deputy and the Council of Deliberation are supported with earnest. 6. That recommendations regarding potential Valley Officers and other leadership appointments are promptly submitted when requested by the Deputy. In his office, he may permit no deviation from the Supreme Council Constitution, bylaws, edicts and mandates. He is to be cautious and circumspect in Masonic decisions, making certain that he is right before giving a positive answer. He is expected to promulgate and support the decisions and directives of the Deputy who serves as Commander-in-Chief of the Ohio Council of Deliberation, the governing body of Ohio Scottish Rite.
