14 Students receive grant in
aid from Valley of Cleveland

Scholarships awarded from Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund
and Blue Envelope Appeal Abbott Scholarship Fund


  
Fourteen students will receive scholarship grants from the Valley of Cleveland through the Blue Envelope Appeal Abbott Scholarship Fund, and from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund. This year’s scholarship grants awarded by the Valley of Cleveland total $11,950.The Abbott Scholarships are a result of donations made by the brethren of the Valley of Cleveland to the Supreme Council Blue Envelope Appeal. The scholarships are given to qualified students in recognition of scholastic and all-around achievement. The goal is to help young people fulfill their career goals by assisting them financially as they further their education beyond high school. The Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Ill.·. Ross R. Black, 33°, who passed on in 1996.Scottish Rite Abbott Scholarships and Ross R. Black Scholarships are awarded to children of Scottish Rite Masonic families or to young people active in Masonic related organizations such as DeMolay, Rainbow, or Job’s Daughters. Those receiving Abbott Scholarship Awards are as follows:

Katie BowensKathleen Elizabeth Bowens • Macedonia
Kathleen is a graduate of Macedonia High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Vicki Bowens. Granddaughter of John S. Pustai, a Past Master and member of the Valley of Cleveland. Member of Job’s Daughters. Kathleen will be attending the University of Akron and receives a grant in aid of $600 from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.

Robert DunhamRobert Michael Dunham • North Ridgeville
Robert is a graduate of North Ridgeville High School. He is the son of George and Deborah Dunham. Granddaughter of Donald W. Dunham. Both George and Donald are Master Masons and members of the Valley of Cleveland. Robert will be attending Bowling Green State University as a freshman. He receives a Abbott Scholarship Grant in Aid of $1000.

Germaine EvankoGermaine Kristen Evanko • Chippewa Lake
Germaine is a graduate of Walsh Jesuit High School. She is the daughter of William and Cynthia Evanko, and Granddaughter of Albert Evanko. Both William and Albert are Master Masons and members of the Valley of Cleveland. Germaine receives an Abbott Scholarship Fund Grant of $1000. She will be attending The University of Dayton as a freshman.

Andrew E. Federer • Eastlake
Andrew is a graduate of Eastlake North High School. He is the son of James and Janet Federer. Granddaughter of Ian Euren. Both James and Ian are Master Masons and members of the Valley of Cleveland. Andrew will be a freshman at Cleveland State University. He will receive a $1000 Abbott Scholarship Fund Grant in Aid.

Mary N. Gallagher • LaGrange
Mary is a graduate of Keystone High School in LaGrange. She is the daughter of John and Barbara Gallagher and the granddaughter of Glenn Schroth, a Master Mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland. Mary will attend Kent State University. She receives a $1000 Grant in Aid from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.

William LovasWilliam James Lovas • Burton
William is a graduate of Berkshire High School. He is the son of Rodney and Marie Lovas. Father is a Master Mason and an officer in Ariel Chapter Rose Croix. William is a DeMolay. William will be attending the University of Pennsylvania as a freshman. He receives a $1000 Abbott Scholarship Grant in Aid.

Sarah MulletSarah Catherine Mullet • Chesterland
Sarah is a graduate of Newbury High School. Daughter of Martin and Susan Mullet. Grandfather is Arnold Bottger, a Master Mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland. Sarah will enter Case Western Reserve University as a freshman. She receives a $1000 Abbott Scholarship Fund Grant in Aid.

Brian MulletBrian D. Painting • Cleveland 
Graduate of Elyria Catholic High School. Son of Douglas Painting and Carole Weinhardt. Granddaughter of Robert Painting, a Master Mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland, Brian receives a $600 Grant in Aid from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.


David Michael Sinowetski • Strongsville
David is a graduate of Strongsville High School. He is the son of Dave and Debbie Sinowetski. He has been affiliated with DeMolay for Boys for four years. He will attend the University of Cincinnati as a freshman. He receives a $1000 Abbott Scholarship Fund Grant in Aid.

Alexandrea Licht • Parma
Alexandrea is a graduate of Valley Forge High School. She is the daughter of Raymond and Mary Licht and granddaughter of John Oriti. Both father and grandfather are Masons and members of the Valley of Cleveland. She is affiliated with Rainbow for Girls in Medina. Alexandrea will be a student at Eastern Michigan University this fall. She receives a $750 Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund Grant in Aid.

Casey McMurray • Conneaut
Casey is a graduate of Edgewood High School in Ashtabula. She is the daughter of Charles and Dawn McMurray and Granddaughter of Myron Dreslinski. Both father and grandfather are Masons and Valley of Cleveland members. Casey will attend Kent State University. She receives a $750 Grant in Aid from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.

Rachael Pitman • Willowick
Rachael is a graduate of North High School. She is the daughter of Claude M. Pitman, and Marth Jean Montgomery. She is the granddaughter of Claude A. Pitman, a Mason and a member of the Valley of Cleveland, She will attend the University of Dayton this fall. Rachael is the recipient of a Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund Grant in Aid.

Brian SmithBrian Burge Smith • Perrysburg
Brian is a graduate of Perrysburg High School. He is the son of Ben and Kathy Smith and grandson of Wilbur B. Smith, a Mason and Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of the Valley of Cleveland. Brian will attend Ohio State University this fall. He receives a $750 Grant in Aid from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.


Lacey Strickler • Wellington
Lacey is a graduate of Wellington High School. She is the daughter of Thomas and Joan Strickler, and the granddaughter of John Demyan, a Mason and a member of the Valley of Cleveland. Lacey will be a student at the University of Toledo this fall. She receives at $750 Grant in Aid from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.
