Valley of Cleveland Chorus Notes
First Valley of Cleveland Chorus
rehearsal set for Tuesday, October 3rd

Valley of Cleveland
SCOTTISH RITE
CHORUS OFFICERS
President..........................Darrell Reed
Vice President......William Woodbridge
Secretary...................Horace H. Miller
Treasurer...............Robert A. Gilleland

We hope everyone had a pleasant and relaxing summer while dodging the thunderstorms that have rained on so many northeast Ohio parades this summer!! We had all better relax while we can, because our Chorus Director, Ill.·. Marvin R. Price, 33°, has decreed that our first practice of the fall season/fall reunion, will be on Tuesday, October 3rd, at the regular time of 7:30 p.m., and in our usual place, downstairs in the Chorus Rehearsal Room at Masonic Square, 3615 Euclid Avenue, in Cleveland.

PROSPECTIVE MEMBERS...PLEASE NOTE!!

Any member of the Valley, or any other regular Scottish Rite Valley, is more than welcome to join us at our first practice and see what we do and how we do it. The ability to read music is a plus, but not a requirement (if it was, I wouldn’t be the one writing this column, because I wouldn’t be there!!) As a member of the Chorus, you will learn.

• Basic vocal techniques

• Basic music skills

• Choral music repertoire

• The words (and the deeper meaning behind them) of our Reunion Degree Ritual.

The members of the Chorus also have a wonderful opportunity for having fun with a great bunch of guys, and for providing a much-needed (and now, unfortunately, almost unique) service to Freemasonry. We are unique because there are not many Valleys nationwide (or worldwide, for that matter) who still have a Chorus for their Degree conferrals, so the Valley of Cleveland is very privileged to be able to enjoy the work we do.

Anyone who can sing a hymn in church, or yodel in the shower, or groan along with the National Anthem at a baseball game (and believe me, the way some modern renditions of that song go, groaning is the most appropriate response!!), is a fair candidate to join the chorus. What skills you don’t have, we’ll teach. For more details, please contact Marvin Price at (440) 944-8264, or any of the Chorus Officers or members.

In line with the above, Chorus Director Marvin Price has announced that there will be a punch-and-cookies reception (or something--I’m not the chef, so don’t ask me about the menu!!) after our first rehearsal, to welcome new members to the group and to celebrate our coming together again after the summer layoff. So, be sure to come out and see what’s what with the Chorus!!

Speaking of our Chorus Director Marvin Price and Organist for the Valley, Ill.·. Dr. Robert Bray, they ably represented the Chorus at the recent dedication of the 32° Masonic Learning Center on Sunday, July 16th. This event included an official visitation by our Sovereign Grand Commander, Ill.·. Robert O. Ralston, 33° for the festivities. Marvin sang “I Believe”, and Dr. Bray played for him as well as supplying his usual “incidental music”. Many thanks to these two distinguished musicians and Masons for their many services to the Valley!!

And in closing, look for a major announcement of great excitement coming in the next edition of The Scottish Rite News...a major musical event will be happening in our beloved Masonic Auditorium this fall. I can’t say what it is yet (Masonic secrecy, you know), but when you hear it, it’ll knock your socks off!!! Stay tuned for, as Paul Harvey puts it, “the rest of the story”!!
