SCHOLARSHIPS Ross R. Black and Abbott Scholarship Assistance is available to members of Masonic Families who are seeking grants in aid for the education of their children or grandchildren. Applications for the Abbott Scholarship and Ross R. Black Scholarships are now available from the Valley of Cleveland office. To qualify, an applicant must be a family member of a Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland Family. An applicant may also be a member of one of the Masonic sponsored youth organizations. They must also be a graduate of a public or private secondary/preparatory school. To qualify, an applicant must provide a copy of a grade transcript and either ACT or SAT scores and report sources of family income as reported to the IRS. All applications must be for full-time students. Applications may be obtained by calling Ill.·. John H. Youngblood, 33°, Secretary of the Valley of Cleveland at (216) 432-2370, or by writing him at 3615 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115. Grants in Aid are for the 2001-2002 school term. Applications, in duplicate, must be in the hands of the scholarship committee before April 1, 2001. The amount of the scholarship aid is dependent upon funds available. However, it is hoped that individual grants will range from $500 to $1000. Grants will be paid directly to the educational institution at which the recipient has been accepted. Those receiving assistance for the 2000-2001 school term were: Kathleen Bowens of Macadonia, Robert Dunham of North Ridgeville, Germaine Evanko of Chippewa Lake, Andrew Federer of Eastlake, Mary Gallagher of LaGrange, William Lovas of Burton, Sarah Mullet of Chesterland, Brian Painting of Cleveland, David Sinowetski of Strongsville, Andrea Licht of Parma, Casey McMurray of Coneaut, Rachael Pitman of Willowick, Lacey Strickler of Wellington, and Brian Smith of Perrysburg. The Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Ill.·. Ross R. Black, 33°, who passed away in 1996.
