Service
The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland held the annual Family Life Program Worship service at Old Stone Church on Sunday, November 18th. The annual event is the twelfth time that the brethren of the Valley have celebrated the Family Life Program at Old Stone Church. Leading the Worship Service was Rev. & Doctor Gary L. Kornell, Pastor of Old Stone. He was assisted by Thomas C. Anderson, Joseph J. Orosz, and Robert J. Homoly, officers of the A.A.S.R. Valley of Cleveland. The service was based on a Thanksgiving theme. Music sung by the congregation included We Gather Together to ask the Lord’s Blessing and My Country ‘Tis of Thee. The world-famous Old Stone Church choir, directed by Eric Wicks, along with the Old Stone Church Pipe organ, played by Music Director William C. Shaffer, provided a moving religious musical experience for those who attended the service. Dr. Kornell’s sermon topic “Show me the Money” was based on a passage from Luke, Chapter 21, verse 4, which reads “ For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God; but she of her penury hath cast in all the living she had.” In the sermon, Dr. Kornell spoke of Family Values. He presented statistics focusing on the family. “In 1966 to 1999 there were more bankruptcies in the U.S. than college graduates; there are twice as many malls in the U. S. as schools; in general, parents spend six hours weekly shopping but spend only 40 minutes a week with their children. We have become a generation that has chosen to work more...to make more money...to acquire more things.” Following the 10 a.m. service, a reception for the brethren and guests of the Valley of Cleveland was held in the church social hall. The Family Life Program worship service is an annual event on the schedule of the Valley of Cleveland. Plan now to attend this sacred and moving program at Old Stone Church. The date for 2002 is November 24th. Mark your calendars and plan to attend the service. Watch the Scottish Rite News for details. Family Life Observance programs are scheduled regularly by the valley. Plan to attend them with your family. Chairman for the Valley of Cleveland Family Life Observance program is Robert J. Homoly. The Scottish Rite Masons in the Valley of Cleveland have officially kicked off the 2002 Family Life Program--a year-long series of activities celebrating the importance of the family. Those too are important.” “We hope that this year’s Family Life Program will remind us to take time to enjoy family life every day of the year”, said Homoly. Among the scheduled activities for 2002 are: The Travel and Adventure Series programs in January and March; The Feast of the Paschal Lamb Observance in March; a children’s picnic in August; the annual Worship Service at Old Stone Church in November; and the Children’s Holiday Party in December.
