Ross R. Black, Abbott and Dr. Ronald James Scholarship grant deadline April 1 

Assistance is available to members of Masonic families who are seeking grants in aid for the education of their children or grandchildren. Applications for the Abbott Scholarships, Ross R. Black Scholarships, and Dr. Donald R. James Scholarship fund are now available from the Valley Secretary at the Valley of Cleveland office.

To qualify for the Abbott and Black scholarships, an applicant must be a family member of a Scottish Rite Mason. An applicant may also be a member of one of the Masonic sponsored organizations. They must also be a graduate of a public or private secondary/preparatory school. To qualify for the Dr. Donald R. James Scholarship, an applicant must be a male student in a Pre-Med, Medical School or Sports Medicine school.

An applicant must provide a copy of a grade transcript and either ACT or SAT scores and report sources of family income as reported to the IRS. All applications must be for full-time students.

In 2001, 14 students received grants from the Valley of Cleveland. Abbott Scholarships were awarded to Mike Ashton of Perry, Jamie Marie Bollinger of Avon, Justin Adam Dyke of Wellington, Rebekah Katherine Gilbert of Medina, David Allen Goebel of Willoughby, Jennifer Mae Jamison of Willoughby, James P. Kunc of Parma, Melissa Brooke Main of Rocky Rover, and Amy Nicole Snyder of Amherst.

Ross R. Black Scholarships were awarded in 2001 to Ralph C. Seivert III of Minneapolis, Minn., Noah Harlan Hampton of Lakewood, Amanda Jean Ellis of Lakewood, and Becky C. Messner of Cleveland.

The Dr. Donald R. James Scholarship was awarded to Andrew Meyer who is a junior at Marietta College where he is enrolled in Pre-Med studies. Applications may be obtained by calling John H. Youngblood, Secretary of the Valley at (216-432-2370, or writing him at 3615 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio 44115. Grants in Aid are for the 2002-2003 school term.

Applications must be submitted in duplicate and in the hands of the scholarship committee before April 1, 2002. The amount of the scholarships is dependent upon funds available. However is it expected that individual grants will range from $500 to $1000.

All grants will be paid directly to the educational institution at which the recipient has been accepted.
