Valley of Cleveland to host
Grand Master’s One-Day Class

History-making legislation passed by the Grand Lodge last year will allow candidates to receive all three Symbolic Masonry degrees in just one day, April 27th. In northeastern Ohio, the special one-day presentation will be held in the Cleveland Masonic Center, 3615 Euclid Avenue in Cleveland.

The candidate can then become a 32nd degree mason that same day and also affiliate with the Shrine.

All three Symbolic Masonry Degrees will be conferred. Most regular proficiency requirements will be waived. Teams of exceptional ritualists are being recruited. Each candidate will be assigned a mentor.

Normal initiation fees will be paid to Lodges which must investigate and ballot on their own candidates. Following the conferral of the three Symbolic Masonic Degrees, candidates who have petitioned the Valley of Cleveland will view the presentation of the 32nd Scottish Rite Degree. Petitions are now available through the Valley Secretary for the Scottish Rite program.

Brethren, the Spring 2002 Class would be an excellent opportunity to ask your friend to petition for the The three Symbolic Degrees of Ancient Craft Masonry (Blue Lodge) and the Scottish Rite and be a continued on page 12 continued from page 1member of the Grand Master’s Class of Candidates. The initiation fee for the Scottish Rite degrees is $100 payable with the presentation of the petition to the Valley Secretary; a special fee is available for petitioners under the age of 35. Fees for the three Symbolic Blue Lodge degrees are set according to the petitioned lodge’s dues structure. Call the Secretary of your lodge to obtain that information. and a petition.

If you need a petition for the Scottish Rite, please call Ill.·. John H. Youngblood 33°, Secretary of the Valley of Cleveland at (216) 432-2370.

IS YOUR PASTOR A MASON?
Supreme Council assists clergy to become members of fraternity

Over the years there have been numerous attempts by non-masons to identify Freemasonry as a religion. The accusations have come from various church officials and extremists. Many have done so to further their own selfish interests. Although Freemasons have continually pointed out that the fraternity is neither a religion nor a threat to religion, there have been those who still viciously attack with erroneous statements to serve their own end.

Masons who are clergymen know that there is no conflict. They often become the fraternity’s best spokesmen and provide valuable assistance from the “grass roots” level to help overcome the confusion over the subject of Freemasonry.

To increase this understanding, the Supreme Council has approved a plan to provide the Symbolic Lodge initiation fee for any clergyman seeking admission. The annual dues, of course, would be the responsibility of the individual.

Further, in the event that a clergyman Mason wishes to increase his light in Masonry, the Scottish Rite application fees will also be waived.

If your clergyman is not a Mason or Scottish Rite Mason, and you wish further information regarding this Supreme Council program, call John Youngblood, Valley Secretary, at
(216) 432-2370.

Al Koran Shrine seeking new members

By Duncan McVean

The Potentate and Nobles of Al Koran Shrine cordially invite all members of the Grand Master’s Class, as well as all Masons who have not yet become Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, to take advantage of a special opportunity to join the Greatest Philanthropy of Masonry.

The Shrine operates Hospitals that specialize in the treatment of children with physical disabilities and those injured by severe burns. Two of these Hospitals are within a 250 mile radius of Cleveland. All medical services in Shriner Hospitals, as well as transportation to and from them, are provided at no charge to patients or to their families. The Budget for the Hospitals for 2002 has been set at $597 million. Each Shrine Center sponsors many activities to raise the funds necessary to support this Budget. And all of these activities are designed to provide fun for the participating Nobles.

Following the conclusion of the Grand Master’s Class and the Scottish Rite Class on April 27, 2002, Al Korean Shrine will convene a special meeting to initiate all petitioners. The initiation ceremony will be held at Al Koran Shrine Center located at 1000 E. Edgerton Road in Broadview Hts. We will have a light buffet for the candidates and their sponsors with registration beginning about 7:00 p.m. The buffet will be at no charge to the candidates, but Nobles will be charged $5.00 for their meals. The initiation Ceremony will take place about 8:00 p.m.

Please indicate your interest in becoming a member of this Shrine Class by calling our Headquarters at (440) 546-9866 and request that a petition be sent to you. If you choose, you can E-Mail your request to Al koran@stratos.net. For those brethren not able to attend this special meeting but wish to petition the Shrine, Al Koran will be conducting its Spring Ceremonial at the Youngstown Shrine Club in June. Petitions and directions for this Ceremonial can also be obtained by calling our Headquarters.

The greatest point to consider when you think about becoming a shriner is that “Shriners Fix Kids!” We encourage you to go out and do likewise.
