Scottish Rite Night at Berea Summer Theatre
July 18 & August 8th
“Whodunnit” and “Man Who Came To Dinner”
 featured performances

Some tickets are still available for the second in the summer series of musical presentations at the Berea Summer Theatre, “Whodunnit”..... a mystery comedy on Thursday, July 18th and a Broadway favorite, “ The Man Who Came To Dinner” on Thursday, August 8th.

“Whodunnit” features six strangers and a butler who have gathered for a black-tie dinner in a wealthy lawyer’s mansion during a thunderstorm. One of the guests is an oily Levantine who tells the others (each in private) that he has the goods to blackmail them. He is ripe for murder---and so it happens. Whodunnit? A torrent of merriment...heavy with excitement, crackles with repartee, rings the bells with epigrams, and detonated depth charges of laughter...converts the theatre into a discotheque of explosive delight.(with).. enough riotous surprises to supply another mystery dramatist with a trunkful of plays. “Whodunnit” plays in the William A. Allman Theatre. Curtain is 8:00 p.m.

“The Man Who Came To Dinner” is a Broadway favorite. This play is a comedy that tells the story of Sheridan Whiteside, who having dined at the home of the Stanleys, slips on their doorstep, breaking his hip. A tumultuous six weeks of confinement follows, during which the Stanley living room is monopolized by the irascible, ex-convicts are invited to meals, strange gifts arrive, and family members’ lives are turned upside-down in this non-stop comic romp. “The Man Who Came To Dinner” plays in the William Allman Theatre. The curtain goes up promptly at 8:00 p.m.

Tickets for “Whodunnit”, and “The Man Who Came To Dinner” are priced at $12 per ticket. Through a special arrangement with the Berea Summer Theatre, we have obtained this special price. To get tickets at the discounted price, you must order them through the Scottish Rite office using the order form on this page, or pick them up at the Scottish Rite office.

If you’re a fan of mysteries and comedies,, you won’t want to miss these two great productions this summer.. Order your tickets now while tickets are still available.

Johnny Knorr Orchestra
plays Glenn Miller music at
Big Band Concert

The Johnny Knorr Band pays tribute to the U. S. with a variety of patriotic music as a fitting climax to the Big Band Show on May 17th. Over 400 masons and their guests enjoyed a great program of Glenn Miller music mixed with other old-time favorites.

It was another of the great Big Band musical presentations that Scottish Rite audiences have become accustomed to.

This time it was the Johnny Knorr’s Orchestra who put everyone’s foot to tapping as he led his audience through the music of Glenn Miller to several modern day sounds that only Johnny Knorr can play.

From “String of Pearls” to “In The Mood”, he was everything that Scottish Rite audiences expect from their musical entertainment.

The vocals of Gay Hobbs, who has been with the Knorr Orchestra for 16 years, held the audience spellbound with her renditions of “The Very Thought of You,” the Johnny Knorr Theme-song “Oh Johnny, Oh”, “ At Last” and a special presentation of “You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby” sung to Dave Mackey, Editor of the Scottish Rite News.

Johnny came to Cleveland accompanied by two dancers, Milo and Debbie, a grandmother who had all the moves that everyone in the audience wished they had. It was great entertainment and well appreciated by the audience.

Other Glenn Miller music played by the Knorr Orchestra included: “ “Pennsylvania 65000”, “In The Mood”, “Chattanooga Choo-Choo”, and other Glenn Miller favorites.

Johnny also paid tribute to Hoagy Carmichael playing “Stardust” and “Tuxedo Junction”.

Johnny Knorr, however, saved the best for last. It was the Patriotic Tribute that brought the house down.

He began with “Amazing Grace” played by his son Jerry on the saxophone, rolled over into “God Bless America”, and ended with “It’s A Grand Old Flag”.

He ended the evening with the traditional “Good Night Sweetheart”, with several members of the audience dancing until the last notes were heard and the curtain coming down.

The Scottish Rite Big Band Night is an annual feature of the Valley of Cleveland. The special night to recognize Big Bands is usually the third Friday in May. The Valley also presents other musical entertainment in the winter, usually sometime in February.

Watch for both of these great musical programs when they are announced in the Scottish Rite News. Get your tickets and meet and greet new and old friends while enjoying the best of the Big Bands.
