Renew your family ties at
Old Stone Church Nov. 24th

From the early years, Freemasons, and especially the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, have worked toward building a moral and ethical society based upon the ideals of equality, freedom of conscience, and brotherhood. Charity and the importance of the family as a lifeline of human growth and survival, long have been guiding factors in our lives.

Valley of Cleveland brethren will have an opportunity to reaffirm these values developed through the years at a “Family Life Program” church service at Old Stone Church in Downtown Cleveland on Sunday, November 24.

The 10 a.m. service is open to all Masons and their families. The impressive Thanksgiving theme will include participation of three officers from the Valley of Cleveland, music by the world-famous Old Stone Church Choir, the inspiring sound of the magnificent Pipe Organ, and a meditation based upon Thanksgiving and Family Values by Dr. and Brother Gary Kornell, Pastor of Old Stone Church.

Those officers participating from the Valley of Cleveland include, Patrick J. Mann,Captain of the Guard of Ariel Chapter, Rose Croix, Mark J. Bollinger, Orator of Eliadah Lodge of Perfection, and John H. Whitehouse, Jr., Engineer and Seneschal of Lake Erie Consistory.

Following the service, a reception for members of Old Stone Church and the Scottish Rite guests will be held in the church social room.

Free parking is available at the lots indicated on the map on this page. Be sure to have one of the ushers validate your parking ticket before the service begins.

Travel & Adventure programs kick off with trip to Costa Rica

On Sunday afternoon, January 19, 2003, the Scottish Rite will present the initial Travel and Adventure Film Series program, Exploring Costa Rica” in the Cleveland Masonic Center Auditorium. The Film Series is sponsored by the Valley of Cleveland in conjunction with the Valley Family Life Program. The film program begins at 2:30 p.m. preceded at 2:00 p.m. by a special musical concert by the Al Koran Orchestra, Directed by Paul Lawrence.

The Travel and Adventure series programs are intended to promote family life. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this educational presentation.

Costa Rica, located in the center of Central America, nurtures some of the last remaining natural treasures of the world. Emerald rain forests abound with rainbow-colored wildlife, mountain ranges with milky cloud forests, spectacular volcano environments and sandy tropical beaches. All together these wonders create the ‘colors’ that have lured visitors to Costa Rica's shores and interior again and again.

Sandy Mortimer, our guest speaker, explores both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, with almost everything in between, to capture the essence and ecological richness of Costa Rica. She will also take us to Brahma Ranches, Liberia, the Capital city, Rincon de la Vieja volcano, Santa Rosa National Park, and other areas of the Country.

Refreshments will follow the film program.

Join your brethren and their families at this Travel and Adventure program on Sunday, January 19th.

The Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland, takes pleasure to invite you and your children and / or grandchildren to a gala holiday party and stage show Sunday, December 15th, in the Cleveland Ma-sonic Center Auditorium. Doors for the show open at 1:30 p.m. for visits and pictures with Santa and “Bernie the Loveable” with the stage production beginning at 2:00 p.m.

The stage show will feature many fun-filled and exciting stage performers. If you attended last years program, you know what a great time everyone in the audience had. Even the performers remarked what a great event the Children’s Holiday Party was and how much fun they had putting on the show. You won’t want to miss the best children’s stage show ever presented by the Valley of Cleveland Family Life Week Committee chaired by John Whitehouse.

Admission to the show is a can of food, a paper product, or a child’s toy, that will be added to the Scottish Rite Family Life Program’s charitable donations made to needy brethren in northeastern Ohio.

Family Summer Picnic

Nikki Urnack, Jennifer Urnack, and Tiffany McLaughlin practice their cheerleader routines

Chief cooks of the hamburgs and hot dogs at the Valley Family Life Program picnic were Jim Schultz (l) and Fred Buswell (r). Fred was the chairman of the picnic committee. We all had a great time.

Nathan Buswell shows his form as he tries to pitch a ball into a bucket. He was one of the winners in the event. Congratulations Nathan.

Ethan Lockmiller tries to catch bubble from his “magic” bubble wand at the Scottish Rite Family Picnic held at the Al Koran Shrine Pavilion August 18th.

“Go deep”, says Bob Hibjan to his grandson Justin as he sets up to throw a touchdown pass. The pass was complete success as was the Family Life Program picnic held August 18th.

Brooke and Courtney Blakeslee are fully engrossed in a board game at the Family Life Picnic. While Brooke is smiling over a great move, Courtney can’t believe what’s just happened.

It was time to eat as several of the Family Life Program picnic goers got into line to get the best selection. The picnic was held Sunday, August 18 at the Al Koran Shrine Picnic Pavilion. A great time was had by all. Watch for the 2003 picnic announcement in the May, 2003 issue of The Scottish Rite News.

Keep the giant beach ball in the air was one of the games played by the children. They set a new picnic record of 52 hits keeping the ball from touching the ground. Even the adults took part in this game. Several were winded after the game but the kids wanted more so that they could extend the record at the Family Life Program picnic at the Al Koran Shrine Pavilion.
