SAVING YOUNG LIVES, ONE CHILD AT A TIME!
32° Masonic Learning Center
looks forward to 2003
By Ill.·. Robert Bodenstein, 33°
Member of The Learning Center Board of Governors
As the work of the new year begins, your 32° Masonic Learning Center is looking forward to another great year. The 2002 year was a banner year as we graduated 4 students who are now able to read with ease thus reinforcing their self esteem and giving them a gift that will last throughout their entire life. We now have over 40 Learning Centers opened and operational within the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, a true example of the enthusiasm shown by our Masonic brethren. An example of this enthusiasm was displayed by the following. Your Learning Center passed out questionnaires to the parents of our students with 13 questions, asking them to rate your Learning Center as to their performance, etc. These questions were answered by a numerical value of 1 to 5... 5 being the highest. After the scores were tallied, only one score of 4.2 existed and this had to do with convenience of location to the school. This is a great tribute to the success of our Learning Center and especially to our talented director, Mary Ann Glasgow. As you can see, our learning Center is making great strides and is well known throughout the entire Northern Masonic Jurisdiction. Our Chairman, Bonnie Youngblood, is often called on at meetings where each of the Learning Centers are in attendance to relate the success and function of your Learning Center. With all the success mentioned, why don’t you become involved? We still need tutors. If you know of anyone who would enjoy working with children, have them call your Learning Center after 4 p.m. The number is (216) 881-2234. They can verify the qualifications when they call. We also need a number of volunteers that would be willing to give up two or more hours per week. If you have the time, call the Learning
Center.

co-sponsoring a Child with Dyslexia during the 32° Masonic Learning Center 2002/2003 and Summer 2003 school terms.

How many times have I suggested that you spearhead a drive to have your Symbolic Lodge furnish the tuition for one dyslexic child to receive one-on-one learning for one
year to help overcome dyslexia. This would be a life long gift for a child to be able to read and raise their self esteem. We of your Learning Center are very pleased and honored that one such lodge, Forest City Lodge no. 388, did come forward to sponsor a child for one year. Our sincere thanks goes out to the officers and members of the lodge. For their participation, they received a letter of thanks from Joe Berlandi, Executive Director, 32° Masonic Learning Center for Children, Inc. and a framed Certificate acknowledging their
donation.
Many lodges have funds sitting in their treasury not being used, only to accumulate interest. Why not make this money work within our Masonic Fraternity to support a youngster, the cost of which is $5000 per year. If this amount is not obtainable, why not pool your money resources with another lodge to give this gift of reading and self esteem to a deserving child which will last a
lifetime.
In closing, become a leader in your lodge or organization to spearhead such a drive to help a child with their reading disability and bring him or her back into the main stream of
society?
Happy New Year to All from your Learning Center Staff and Board of Directors.
