 SCOTTISH RITE 32° LEARNING CENTER

Volunteers honored for
dedication to service

By Ill.·. Robert Bodenstein, 33°
Member of The Learning Center Board of Governors

As thoughts of spring again return, your Learning Center is thriving. December saw our Learning Center entertaining our tutors, volunteers and spouses to a recognition dinner at the Holiday Inn, Independence. Two of our volunteers, Marlene Beaver and Ill.:. Jack Hall, 33°, were honored for their many hours of dedication to our Learning Center. They were presented with a Teddy Bear jacket for their extraordinary service. Why don’t you get involved as a volunteer. It only consists of a few hours a week and you will be rewarded by the enjoyment of working with our young people and their parents. Please call the Scottish Rite office at (216) 432-2370 or the Learning Center office at (216) 881-2234 for details.

Our Learning Center’s program of sponsoring a child for one year is gaining ground. This year we have four more youngsters sponsored by our great benefactors. Enthusiasm of our Board of Governors runs high as our expertise and good will is being noticed by education groups throughout the area. I do not like the term we give free help to children with dyslexia as many people have an attitude it can’t be good if it’s free. I strongly feel our Learning Center gives the best educational treatment for dyslexia available and it just happens to be free.

In closing, I would like to remind all of our members to take back to their symbolic lodges the idea of “Sponsoring A Child Program” the cost of which is $5000 per child per year. The sponsorship will give a child a gift of reading that will last them a lifetime. If your lodge feels they cannot afford this amount, why not combine your donation with that of one or more other lodges to support a child. I assure you that your members will take pride in knowing that they have helped a youngster to read and make a difference in their self-esteem.

Have a great spring and enjoy the holidays.
