6th Masonic Degree to be presented at
Four Coordinate Body meeting in March

The Sixth Scottish Rite Degree will be presented at the Four Coordinate Body meeting March 3rd.The degree presentation will make it possible to add another degree to your Supreme Council program to view all 29 degrees and receive special recognition from Supreme Council.

The degree portrayal program began with the Millennium Class of Candidates. It is the goal that every member have the opportunity to view all the degrees of Scottish Rite Masonry in a timely manner without having to leave the area.

The 6th degree is entitled “Intimate Secretary”, a degree of Eliadah Lodge of Perfection. The degree teaches “devotion to one’s friends and zealousness in performing one’s duty are rewarding virtues”. The sixth degree was last performed at the Spring 1997 Reunion, so it’s been a while since it has been presented in the Valley of Cleveland.

It is the hope of the officers of the Valley that many of the brethren can make time to attend the evening Four Coordinate Body meeting and Sixth degree portrayal.

FAMILY LIFE COMMITTEE PROGRAM FEATURE

Travel and Adventure Series visits West Virginia and New River......the second oldest river on earth

White Water Rafting on the New River
"The 2nd Oldest River on Earth"

The Valley of Cleveland continues the 2003 Travel and Adventure series with a Sunday afternoon matinee, March 9th, program featuring narrator Ken Creed’s reflections, on film, of the 2nd oldest river in the world....the New River.

The Travel program begins at 2:30 p.m. It will be preceded by a concert by The Al Koran Shrine Band beginning at approximately 1:30 p.m., and the recognition program of Valley of Cleveland 50 year members, and Louis Diamond, 2002 Mummer of the Year, at 2:15 p.m. The program will be held in the DeMolay Room in the Cleveland Masonic Center.

The Travel and Adventure film series is just one of the many Family Life programs of the valley for 2003. Admission is FREE and open to members and their guests. We especially invite children who wish to broaden their travel horizons without leaving their seats.

A donation to the Valley of Cleveland Food Bank is suggested and would be greatly appreciated by the hungry throughout northeastern Ohio.

Now a little about our film program.

The New River flows through three states, namely Western North Carolina, Southwestern Virginia, and West Virginia. One of the highlights of the film will include the New River Gorge National River Preserve.

Many renowned geologists consider the New River to be the second oldest on earth, second only to the Nile in Egypt. The last accepted estimates date it at 65 million years in its present course. Along the New River Gorge, rocks exposed are as old as 330 million years.

The 62,000 acres of land and fifty-three miles along the New River is located between the towns of Hinton and Fayetteville, West Virginia. Along Canyon Rim we’ll see spectacular views of the gorge and of the world’s longest single arch steel span bridge.

Jump on for white water rafting, a boat trip through the Great Gorge, and a boardwalk view of the largest falls on the New River which spans 1500 feet. A pleasant train ride will take us through the New River Park Preserve. Take time to fish along the New River, and join Ken as we take in the highlights of the “Old Time Fiddlers Convention” held at Galax, Virginia.

We will stroll along the New River Adventure Trail, go horseback riding, rock climbing, and attend the Irish Spring Festival where we can join in on the Greenery Stroll and snake chase.

There will be highlights of West Virginia’s largest one day festival, “New River Gorge Bridge Day Festival”. This festival is held annually on the third Saturday in October commemorating the 1977 completion of the New River Gorge Bridge. The activities include sky diving and bungee jumping off the bridge, crafts, scenic river cruises, white water rafting, and mountain climbing. There will be singing groups, a look at the camping facilities, and a weekend of many other activities. Join your brethren on this film excursion...and maybe a trip to the New River next summer.

Refreshments honoring our 50 year members and Mummer of the Year Lou Diamond will follow the film presentation. Come and greet our senior members and congratulate them on this occasion and let Lou Diamond know that his work in the Valley is appreciated

Meet and greet old friends. We’ll see you there. Mark your calendar.
