13 students receive scholarships
from Valley of Cleveland
Scholarships awarded from Ross R. Black, and Supreme Council

Thirteen students will receive scholarship grants from the Valley of Cleveland through funds derived through the Supreme Council Blue Envelope Appeal and the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund. The grants for 2003-2004 total $10,700.

The Supreme Council Abbott Scholarships are a result of donations made by the brethren of the Valley of Cleveland to the annual Supreme Council Blue Envelope Appeal. Donation requests were made for your support by the Supreme Council recently. The scholarships are given to qualified students in recognition of scholastic and all-around achievement in their schools. The goal of the scholarships is to help young people fulfill their career goals by assisting them financially as they further their education beyond high school.

The Ross Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Ill... Ross R. Black, 33°, Past Chairman of the Valley of Cleveland Board of Trustees. The scholarships were established in memory of Illustrious Brother Black who passed away in 1996. 

Students receiving Supreme Council Abbott Foundation Scholarships include:

Kaitlyn E. Cochell • Eastlake
Kaitlyn is a graduate of North High School in Eastlake. She is the daughter of John, a Master Mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland, and Debora Cochell. Kaitlyn will attend Miami University in Oxford, Ohio to prepare for a career as a High School Teacher of Mathematics. She receives a $1000 Scholarship from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.

Paul M. Douglas • Parma
Paul is the a graduate of Parma Senior High School. He is the son of Mark, a Master Mason, and Pam Douglas of Parma. His grandfather, David W. Nelson, is also a member of The Valley of Cleveland. Paul will be attending The University of Akron where he will pursue a career in Mechanical Engineering. Paul receives a $1000 Scholarship from The Abbott Scholarship Fund.

Rachel E. Ferguson • Jefferson
Rachel is a graduate of Jefferson Area High School in Jefferson, Ohio. She is the daughter of Donna Harper and the granddaughter of Ill... Robert L. Robertson, Sr. She will be attending Kent State (Ashtabula Branch) to pursue a career in Radiological Technologist. She receives a $1000 Scholarship Award from the Abbot Scholarship Fund.

Katie L. Goodwin • Brunswick
Katie is a graduate of Brunswick High School. She is the daughter of Roger, a Master Mason and a member of our valley, and Tresa Goodwin. Her grandfather is Robert Brooks an officer in the Valley of Cleveland. She will attend Ohio Northern in Ada, Ohio where she will begin her studies to become a Pharmacist. She receives a $1000 Abbott Scholarship grant.

Christopher D. Grinstead • Mentor
Christopher is a graduate of Mentor High School. He is the son of Clyde, a Master Mason and member of the valley, and Holly Grinstead. He is the grandson of Carl Cornwall, also a member of the Valley of Cleveland. He will be attending Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio to begin his studies for a career as a Dietician. He receives a $600 Abbott Scholarship grant.

Peggy M. Hildebrand • Amherst
Peggy is a graduate of Fireland High School. She is the daughter of David, a mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland, and Julie Hildebrand. She is the granddaughter of Ronald Hildebrand, also a member of the valley. She is enrolled in Elon University in Elon, North Carolina where she will prepare for a career in Physical Therapy or Sports Management. She receives a $1000 grant from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.

Caitlin S. Kenny • Chagrin Falls
Caitlin is a graduate of Chagrin Falls High School. She is the daughter of Brian and Kile Kenny, and granddaughter of Harold Parks, a mason and a member of the Valley of Evansville, IN. She will enroll in The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. to begin her studies for a medical career. She receives a $1000 grant from the Abbott Scholarship Fund.

Steven W. Manning • Wellington
Steven is a graduate of Wellington High School. He is the son of Tim and Lisa Manning of Wellington and the granddaughter of Howard Merrill a member of the Valley of Cleveland. She will begin her freshman year at Case Western Reserve University to prepare for a career in Law. She receives a $600 Abbott Scholarship Fund grant.

Students receiving 2003 Ross R. Black  Scholarships include:

David R. Arons •Beachwood
David is a graduate of Beachwood High School. He is the son of Alan, a Mason and member of the Valley of Cleveland, and Marcia Arons. David will be a freshman at the University of Cincinnati where he will prepare for a career in Mechanical Engineering. David receives a $700 grant in aid from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.

Erin M. Ineman • Aurora
Erin is a graduate of Aurora High School. She is the daughter of Frank and Carol Ineman. She is a Rainbow Girl. She is undecided where she will attend college with Ohio Northern, Ohio State or Ohio University preferred. She will pursue a career in International Business. Erin receives a $700 grant in aid from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.

Shawn F. Reilly • Wickliffe
Shawn is a graduate of Wickliffe High School. He is the son of Frank and Ellen Reilly, and the grandson of Gilbert C. Foster a member of The Valley of Cleveland. He will be attending Lakeland Community College in Kirtland or The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, where he will study for a creer as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. Shawn receives a $700 Ross R. Black Scholarship.

Danielle L. Schroth • Westfield Center
Danielle is a graduate of Cloverleaf High School in 2000. She is the daughter of David and Barbara Schroth, and the granddaughter of David E. Schroth, a member of the Valley of Cleveland. Danielle plans to attend the Ohio State School of Massotherapy. She receives $700 from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.

Alexandra L. Vandenbroek • Mentor
Alexandra is a graduate of Mentor High School. She is the daughter of Scott Vandenbroek and Mindy Lou Paresi and the granddaughter of Ill... Morton S. Negin, 33°, a member of the Valley of Cleveland. She will attend John Carroll University where she will pursue a career in business or teaching. Alexandra receives a $700 Scholarship from the Ross R. Black Scholarship Fund.

Donald R. James Scholarship Fund
Jonathan Schweid recipient of $1000 grant

The Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Cleveland, has awarded a $1000 scholarship to Mr. Jonathan Schweid of Toledo.

He is a graduate of Orange High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA is Zoology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio in 2000. He is in his third year of Medical School at Medical College of Ohio.

Jonathan is the son of Robert, a member of University Heights Lodge, and Bobbi Schweid. 

Jonathan is also a member of University Heights Lodge and a member of the Valley of Cleveland.

The Donald R. James Scholarship Fund was established by Brother James to give scholarships to students enrolled in pre-med or medical school that is a mason, son or grandson of a mason.
