Scottish Rite Beck Theatre Play July 20th
3:00 p.m. Sunday Matinee Features Musical “1776”

The Valley of Cleveland Entertainment Committee has scheduled another blockbuster play for the brethren of the Scottish Rite for this summer. It is the Tony Award winning musical “1776”, a play that received five Emmy nominations in 1969 and was produced as a movie in 1972. “1776” was recently revived on Broadway and has met with tremendous success with Brent Spinner playing John Adams.

The special Valley of Cleveland Theatre program is set for July 20th, beginning at 3:00 p.m., in the Beck Theatre, 17801 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood.

Special arrangements have been made with the Beck Center for tickets. The Valley has blocked off 200 tickets, priced at $12 per ticket (usually $19 per ticket) to the performance.

A Scottish Rite reservation also nets a free parking pass to theatre parking.

You must order your tickets through the Scottish Rite in order to get the special ticket price and the parking pass.

Tickets may be at a premium, so don’t delay, get your tickets now and avoid being shut out.

“1776” is based on a book by Peter Stone. It is centered on events surrounding the creation and adoption of The Declaration of Independence, and therefore the birth of a nation. It is a story of one of the most important battles of the Revolution, a battle not fought with bullets, but with words in the hallowed halls of the Continental Congress.

Come celebrate the birth of America by being a fly on the wall in the baking summer of Philadelphia when our Declaration of Independence was written. The main characters of the play are the forceful and unpopular John Adams, 41, and his wife Abigail, who correspond via letter (songs) in a love story that adds humor to the production. It also features the sly and unpredictable Benjamin Franklin, and the home-sick Thomas Jefferson, and his wife Martha, who is brought to Philadelphia because Thomas is lonely. “1776” shows that the birth of a nation was more than just a matter of politics.

American history buffs and avid theatre goers won’t want to miss “1776”. It will be an outstanding afternoon of entertainment.
