SCOTTISH RITE LEARNING CENTER

32° Masonic Learning Center for
children to graduate four July 17th

By Ill.·. Robert Bodenstein, 33°
Member Board of Governors

As we begin our summer schedule, our symbolic lodges and fraternal organizations are dark for July and August. This is not so with our Learning Center as this becomes a very busy time of the year as we move to our summer schedule. We are planning a work load of 24 or 25 active students for the summer session. For this load we are adding three new tutors. These tutors will be a great addition to our active staff.

This summer, our Learning Center participates in a function that should make every 32nd degree mason stand a little taller. On July 17th at 5:00 p. m., in the Gold Room of our Masonic Center, we will be graduating four of our students. These students will receive a gift of reading and self-esteem that will last a lifetime. This gift will carry these youngsters through their entire life and provide to them a gift of reading, writing and personal pleasure.

Our next summer experience that we will be handling was written up in the Northern Light Magazine, May 2003 issue, on page 14.

A group of motorcyclists are traveling June 12th to July 11th on their motorcycles through 49 states to raise awareness to our 32° Masonic Learning Centers for Children. They started their trip in Reading, PA. and are making stops at Learning Centers in 11 cities. Their final stop will be at the Cleveland Learning Center on July 11th at 9 a.m. at which time you are invited to attend and congratulate these masons on their historic and possible annual fund raising journey. Other masons and friends are invited to join Victor Frederick with this group of riders along the way as they return to Pennsylvania.

I would like all of our members to be aware of our Sponsorship Program. The cost of educating one youngster for one year is $5000. This being a large sum for the average person or group, why not get together and make a co-sponsorship which would allow two or three individuals or groups pooling their funds to sponsor a youngster for one year. The fact that you can realize you have helped a child’s self-esteem and encourage him or her to be a better student with their reading and writing skills, should make you feel like a million. It has been shown that 92 cents of every dollar donated to your Learning Center goes directly to children’s education. Very few charities can make a statement like that.

In closing, I would like to wish each of you a safe, healthy, and happy summer. Our children and their parents thank you for your support.
