Diamond and Nilsen elected to receive
Meritorious Service Awards
Designates to receive special recognition in Cleveland next year
The 106th annual meeting of the Ohio Council of Deliberation was held June 6 and 7th in Akron. Receiving the 2002 Meritorious Service Award from the OCD, representing the Valley of Cleveland, were Henry Mack, Jr., and John W.
Oberg.

Lou Diamond |
Elected to receive the 2003 Meritorious Service Award at the 2004 OCD meeting next year in Cleveland will be Louis Diamond of Cleveland and Roy Nilsen of Fairview Park.
Louis Diamond is a member of Franklin Circle Lodge no. 498. He is also a member of Berea Chapter, R.A.M. no. 134, Forest City Council no. 111, and Forest City Commandery no. 4. He has been a member of the Valley of Cleveland since 1976 and plays many roles in valley reunions. He was recently honored as Mummer of the Year by the Valley of Cleveland Mummer’s Club.
Lou is a World War II veteran attaining the rank of Technician 4th Grade (Sergeant). He was Honorably discharged from the service in 1946.
Diamond, a widower, has three daughters, Jacqueline Tennant, Donna Diamond and Lynn Diamond.

Roy Nilsen |
Roy Nilsen is a member of Cleveland Lodge no. 781. He is also Guard of Thatcher Chapter, Royal Arch Masons, and Sentinel of Forest City Commandery. He is also a Past Patron of Ellbrook Chapter, O. E. S.
He was chairman of the Valley Wardrobe Committee for more than six years before recently retiring. It was through his efforts that the actors in the Scottish Rite degree portrayals were costumed appropriately.
A Masonic family, his wife Venita is a Past District Deputy Grand Matron for the State of Ohio and Roy’s son, Robert, is a Past Master of Fairview Lodge no. 699.
Roy was recognized as The Valley of Cleveland Mummer of the Year for 2001.
The order of business for the 2003 meeting began on Friday. Several guests speakers were on hand including Joseph J. Berlandi, Executive Director of the 32° Masonic Learning Center for Children, Inc., Steven R. Pekock, Director of Development for Scottish Rite Charities,
Ill.·. Robert O. Ralston, Sovereign Grand Commander, and
Ill.·. William P. Mayberry, 33°, Grand Master of Masons in Ohio.
The Saturday session was for the general business of the Ohio Council of Deliberation with
Ill.·. Neil M. Smalley, 33° presiding due to the illness of
Ill.·. James E. Olmstead, 33°. Committee reports were presented on finance, MSA Awards for 2004, Necrology, Ohio Masonic Home (867 residents are now registered), State of Rite, Membership Development, (a goal of 50% of Ohio Masons has been set for AASR membership), Nominations, and Resolutions, and attendance report of OCD members at the Valley of Akron Convocation.
Congratulations Lou and Roy on achieving one of the highest honors in Scottish Rite Masonry and thank you Valley of Akron for your great hospitality.
