Norwalk Past Masters win
July 12th dawned a perfect day for golf as 93 golfers teed off for the 14th annual Scottish Rite Golf Classic at Fox Run Golf Course in Lorain, Ohio. The perfect golf day led to a record score for the Scottish Rite Golf Classic as a group of masons from Norwalk walked off with the 2003 honors. The team, consisting of John Lichoff, Charles Taubler, Gary Meilke, Mike Cozmyk conquered the 6397 yard, par 71 golf course with a 10 under par score of 61. This group of Past Masters from Norwalk, Ohio also took Classic honors in 1993 and 1996, and won last year at Auburn Springs Country Club. Runners-up with 6 under par was Team Levy, a team that had a great run for the title with a score of 65, and a team, captained by Tom Coste, with a score of 66. In winning the Classic for the fourth
time, the Norwalk group had ten birdies, completing the front nine six under par with a 29 and on the back nine, they shot a 32, four under par. The Coste Team, Tom Coste, Dave Gould, Kevin Rochford and Glen Radatz was also in the hunt shooting a front nine score of 34, with two birdies. But a bothersome bogey on hole no. 3 caused them some trouble. On the back nine, they shot a 32, with five birdies, but they also had another bogey. Another team in contention was the Weitzel Team with a score of 67 or Four under par. They were five off the pace after nine. They then rallied on the back nine with a score of 33. The Norwalk group was without one of their winning 2002 combination. Not playing this year was Alan Blair. However his replacement, a team regular, Mike Cozmyk, who couldn’t play last year and is an original Past Master team member, filled in with some great golf. The 15th Annual Scottish Rite Golf Classic will be played sometime in July, 2004. Watch for details of the event in the March/April 2004 issue of the Scottish Rite News and join your brethren for a great day of golf.
