Valley Traveler’s announce itinerary for Washington D. C. area tour

Valley Traveler's 2004 Chesapeake Country Tour Application

DAY 1-- George Washington National Masonic Shrine. After leaving Cleveland, we soon find ourselves in the State of Virginia where we visit the George Washington National Memorial on historic Shooters Hill. It will be difficult to tear ourselves from the Shrine, but rooms await us where we will spend the next five night. (D).

DAY 2--Washington, D. C. Touring. We spend a full day touring the Federal District of Columbia carved from the land that Maryland and Virginia donated to the new Federal Government. Everywhere we see larger than life memorials and monuments. We’ll visit a few including the brand new WWII National Memorial, and The Vietnam Memorial. Also a visit to Arlington Cemetery, to see the changing of the guards.

We’ll meet a tram for the ride to the top of the hill, stopping at the gravesites of President John F. Kennedy and his brother Bobby.

Tonight we dine with a view of the Potomac River before returning to our cozy nest for a good night’s rest. (LB,D)

DAY 3-- Baltimore City Tour. Centered around Baltimore Harbor, a once derelict area, now a vibrant center of town. We’ll visit Camden Yards, Mt. Vernon Square and Fort McHenry, ending at the vibrant Inner Harbor area for free time. While at the Inner Harbor, use the Water Front Taxis Vouchers we’ll provide to shuttle sites ringing the Harbor. Shop till you drop at the historic community of Fells Point. We complete the day in the “Old World” with a stop for dinner in Little Italy. (LB,D.)

DAY 4-- Annapolis Touring. The Capital of Maryland. The center of this historic city still maintains its original architecture. It’s center is the Statehouse, oldest state capitol in continuous legislative use. We walk the short distance from St. John’s College where many of our Country’s patriots gathered, to the U. S. Naval Academy where midshipmen receive their military training. We end our tour at the City Dock for lunch and exploring. A leisurely dinner is planned for the evening. (LB,D)

DAY 5--St. Michael’s, Maryland Tour. The center of a unique and magical water world, this small well-preserved vintage port, whose origins dates from the birth of the colonies, is nestled on the Miles River. We’ve arranged admission to Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum which is packed with exhibits of skipjacks, oystering and the “tongers” who harvest them from the bay. Make sure to learn all available about Maryland’s famous Blueshell Crabs, since we will have a personal encounter with them tonight. We meet a boat for afternoon luncheon cruise along the Miles River, then finish our land tour. A traditional Maryland Crabfest, with all the trimmings, ends the day.(LB,L,D)

DAY 6-- Seven Springs, Pennsylvania/Flight #93 Memorial. We turn north this morning to begin our homeward trek. We arrive at the ski town of Seven Springs, PA, where a delightful luncheon buffet awaits. The tiny town of Shanksville is about 30 miles away where we view the Flight #93 temporary Memorial. Departing this remote countryside shrine, we retrace our path home. (LB,L)
