The Valley of Cleveland Board of Trustees Vice Chairman and Past Most Wise Master of Ariel Chapter, Rose Croix will be recognized by the Valley of Cleveland for his outstanding service to masonry and to the Scottich Rite in particular by having the Fall 1999 Class of Candidates named in his honor.

Illustrious Joseph R. Bako is a Past Master of Halcyon/Simpson Lodge no 498, a Companion and Past High Priest of West Park Chapter no. 214 , R.A.M. a Companion of Lakewood Council no. 125, and a Sir Knight of Holy Grail Commandery. He has been a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottesh Rite in The Valley of Cleveland since April 1965, and served as Most Wise master of Ariel Chapter, Rose Croix in 1987 to 1989. He is Vice chairman of The Valley of Cleveland Board of Trustees.

A Senior DeMolay, he was Right Worshipful Master of Senior DeMolay, mark Master Lodge no. 2 in 1985-1986.

A native of Cleveland, Bako graduated From Marrietta College in 1963 with a B.A. in Education. He received his Master's Degree from John Carroll College in 1970.

He retired from the Cleveland School System in 1998. Most recently he was Chairman of English/Language Arts at Carl F. Shuler Junior High School. He was President of the Greater Cleveland Teachers of English Association in 1982-1984.

Bako is also a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem, Amaranth, Knight Masons of Ireland, and Red Cross of Constantine.

Illustrious Joseph R. Bako and his wife Alma Reside in Lakewood. They have twin sons, Joseph Allen and John Robert. They attend Faith Lutheran Church in Lakewood.
