Brother Donald R. James established an endowment fund to provide scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing a career in medicine, dentistry, or sports medicine.  The following criteria must be met in order to qualify for consideration.

Masonic Affiliation.  The applicant must be a:

1.  A Mason in good standing belonging to a Lodge recognized by the Grand Lodge of Ohio;

2.  A member in good standing of the Order of Eastern Star as recognized by the Grand Lodge of Ohio;

3.  The child, step-child, grandchild, or step-grandchild of a Mason or Eastern Star described in 1. or 2. above; or

4.  A member in good standing of the Order of DeMolay International, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, or Job’s Daughters International.

Educational Pursuit. 

Degree.  The applicant must be enrolled in one of the following:

1.  Be enrolled in a graduate program leading to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or a Doctor of Dental Science (DDS) degree.  (The terms of the grant do not permit an award for a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (OD) or a degree in the study of Chiropractic Medicine.)

2.  Be enrolled in a program leading to a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Sports Medicine.

3.  Be enrolled in an undergraduate program with a declared major of chemistry, biology, other life sciences, or if recognized by the educational institution, pre-med.

                Other Requirements.

1.  Applicant must have maintained a Grade Point Average of 3.0 based on a 4 Point system, or if the school uses a Pass/Fail system, the student has passed all courses in the preceding academic year.

2.  The educational institution must be located in the United States.

3.  The educational institution must be accredited by an appropriate body.

Citizenship.  The applicant must be a citizen of the United States and residing therein.

Renewal.  If a scholarship is granted, it may be renewed in the discretion of the Scholarship Committee if the applicant has met the preceding Educational Pursuit criteria.

Scholarships are to be applied against tuition only.  Funds may not be used for books, room & board, or other incidental expenses.  If a scholarship is awarded, it will be paid directly to the institution. The award or non-award of a scholarship to a qualifying applicant, and if an award is made, the amount of the scholarship, is in the sole and absolute discretion of the Scholarship Committee, whose decision is final.
